It was a really nice long weekend for me.
Firstly, the weather. I LOVE hot weather. So much. It has felt like Christmas holidays. It’s sort of a shame that everything is back to normal this week, with kids’ activities and the general busyness of life, but that’s alright. Give me the sun and I’ll be ok.
Beanie and hubby helped my sister and brother-in-law move house on Saturday, while I stayed home with Talbot and my niece. They had such fun together, and it was much easier on my aching, pregnant-lady back, than moving boxes and furniture.
I managed to squeeze in some sewing time during naps and either side of niece-minding, and did the same on Sunday, and it was great. And I can officially say that I am getting ready for Christmas. Yah! Two and a half months to go (and one month til baby, so I get to be a bit organised, right?)
Late last year, I bought some fabric from a lady who had over purchased, and when I went to pick it up she gave me a couple of big bags full of smaller, but still useable pieces of fabric, including a bunch she had pre-cut and not actually gotten around to sewing, for whatever reason. Lucky day for me!
In the bag, I found some pre-cut pieces for a little girl dress. Yippee! The neck-line was a little weird, and I’m not quite sure where she was going with it, so I cut away at it to create a pillow-case style dress. I increased the sleeve size, as I have noticed that armholes seem to be less than generous on patterns that I have sewed up in the past, including the snappy toddler top that I recently made, and added some bias tape to the arm holes to neaten them up.
Honestly, if I’d cut this piece, I’d have sent the waves in the other direction (horizontally, rather than vertically), but I’m not going to complain about that, since it was FREE. I found some cute lobster fabric in the bag and made a fabric tie to go through the dress (using these instructions), and it has turned out beautifully. You can find a basic template for a pillow-case dress here, too.
And the icing on the cake, is that it actually fits Talbot (arm holes included)! I hadn’t expected it to be too small, but I really thought it looked a lot bigger than it actually is. So now she has a new dress ready to go for Christmas. And I’m feeling mighty good about that!
Edit: Here it is in action… (love heart eyes)
