Actually, that should read “we’ve all been on a summer holiday”, but it’s a classic tune, and one that my dad would be whistling and singing for days before any family holiday, regardless of the time of year. Some things stick. And now it’s in your head. You’re welcome.
We enjoyed a lovely holiday right after Christmas with my husband’s entire family – that’s 10 adults, Beanie, four toddlers and two babies. Crazy? A little bit. Fun? Yes. [For the record, we weren’t all in one big house; just occupying half a floor, plus another unit on another floor.]
Hubby’s family has always travelled to Forster for family holidays, and now we do the same. It’s so nice to drive over the bridge that joins Forster and Tuncurry and feel like you’ve arrived home. Apart from this particular trip, we usually stay in the same apartment every time we go, so it has really become a home away from home. We know where the plates are.
The days were filled with lots of beach time, some park time and lots of leisurely walks… ok, not all of them were leisurely. Some of them included tantruming toddlers (mine). We got a few ice-creams and hit our favourite local cafes – Tartt and Coffee Grind. Normally we walk the mall and visit Stocklands once or twice, but that didn’t happen between the sleeping toddler and the crying baby, but that’s ok. We know what’s there, and really, it’s all about the beach. I did get in a bit of knitting, but there was no reading this time!
The kids had a blast on the trampolines, and Beanie even caught a fish (although the evidence is elsewhere located… i.e. hubby’s phone). And best of all, no child got sunburnt. Ahem.
I can’t wait for the next trip, but for now it’s back to reality.
Where are your favourite family holiday places? Let me hear them!
