A few weeks ago (about a month, now!) I had my two-yearly haircut. It’s not really supposed to be as precise as that, but it was almost that long since I’ve had a proper haircut. Gosh it was NICE. It was so, so nice to sit there at the salon and be pampered for a few hours, and read a magazine and chat with my beautiful hair-stylist friend.
Since I do go to the salon so infrequently, it’s a real treat (one that I’m going to try for at least annually, maybe twice a year!). Being such a rare treat, I came up with a list of things for making the most of it.
Five tips for making the most of your trip to the salon
1. Be prepared to lose your whole day.
Seriously. I was there for over two and a half hours. Did I mind? Not at all! But I made sure I didn’t have anything else planned that I had to worry about. No appointments, no house work, no errands. Just nothing. Thursday was “hair day”.
2. Make sure you organise school run.
Unless you go to the salon straight after you do drop-off, there’s every chance you could be there over, or uncomfortably close to pick-up time. Our school lets out just after 2:30. EARLY. You don’t want to be stressing out about getting to school while you should be relaxing and enjoying your pamper time.
3. Do your make-up and wear something nice.
No sweats, please. You will walk out with your hair all done and feeling like a million bucks. Make sure you match your new hair.
4. Do something afterwards.
Make the most of your new ‘do, while it’s in that perfect salon condition. I don’t know what they do, or how, but I have never, ever, managed to replicate that perfect shine and straightness. Go to the shops, go out for a coffee, see a friend or go for a date. Just do something, and enjoy that fancy fresh hair.
Above all, if your trips to the salon are as infrequent as mine, make sure you indulge a little. Catch up on your favourite magazine (bring your own if New Idea isn’t your style) or your current book. Buy a gorgeous cup of coffee or a smoothie or a piece of cake to enjoy while your hair is colouring.
Now that you’re all equipped with these fabulous tips, go ahead and make an appointment at your favourite salon and enjoying getting pampered.
